Unit IV · Presentations with AI
17. Slides with Gemini AI
Gemini does not make a full presentation in one click like Gamma. Instead, it helps in two ways. First, it plans the content. Second, it works inside Google Slides to build it. This is Lab experiment 14.
Way 1: Gemini plans, you build
Step 1: Ask Gemini for the structure
I need a 10-slide presentation on "Rainwater harvesting for apartments in Visakhapatnam" for first year civil engineering students. For each slide give: slide title, 3 to 4 bullet points (short), and one idea for an image. Also give speaker notes of 2 to 3 sentences for each slide.
Gemini writes the whole plan. Read it. Ask for changes: "Make slide 4 about costs in rupees." "Add a slide with a simple diagram idea."
Step 2: Build the slides
Option A: Google Slides
- Open slides.google.com. Make a new presentation.
- Choose a theme.
- For each slide in Gemini's plan: add a slide, paste the title and bullets.
- Paste the speaker notes in the notes box under each slide.
- Add images (next step).
Option B: Gamma's "Paste in text". Paste Gemini's plan into Gamma. It makes the slides for you.
Option C: Ask Gemini: "Give me this presentation as a Markdown file." Then import it into Gamma or a tool like Marp.
Step 3: Add images
Way 2: Gemini inside Google Slides
If your Google account has Gemini for Workspace (many college and some personal accounts do), there is a Gemini button at the top right of Google Slides.
- Create a slide: Click Gemini → "Create a slide about ..." It adds a slide with text and an image.
- Create an image: Click Gemini → "Create an image of ..." for the current slide.
- Summarise: Ask Gemini to summarise the deck or suggest a better title.
- Rewrite text: Select text and ask Gemini to make it shorter or clearer.
If you do not see the Gemini button, use Way 1. It works for everyone.
Gamma vs Gemini
| Gamma | Gemini | |
|---|---|---|
| Makes full deck in one click | Yes | No (plans it, or slide by slide) |
| Control over content | Medium | High |
| Design | Automatic, modern | You choose in Google Slides |
| Export to PPTX | Yes | Yes, from Google Slides |
| Free | Limited credits | Yes |
Tip: Use both. Plan with Gemini. Build with Gamma. Polish in Google Slides.
Try it
- Ask Gemini for a 10-slide plan on a topic from your branch. Then build it in Google Slides.
- Ask Gemini to write a script for what you will say on each slide. Practise it.
- Put the plan into Gamma and compare the two decks.
- Open slides.google.com and look for the Gemini button. If it is there, make one slide with it.
New words

- Speaker notes — notes under a slide that the presenter sees but the audience does not.
- Deck — another word for a full set of slides.
- Markdown — a simple way of writing formatted text using symbols like
#and-. - Insert — to add something (an image, a slide) into a document.
