Unit IV · Presentations with AI
16. Slides with Gamma AI
Gamma is a tool that makes a full presentation from a few lines of text. You give the topic. It writes the slides, chooses a design and adds images. This is Lab experiment 13.
Link: gamma.app. Sign up with Gmail. The free plan gives you credits to make several presentations.
Step by step
- Open Gamma. Click Create new.
- Choose Generate. (Other options: Paste in text if you already have notes, or Import file for a Word or PDF file.)
- Choose Presentation.
- Type your topic. Be specific. Example:
prompt
Solar energy for a college campus in Visakhapatnam: how it works, costs, benefits, a simple plan for GVPIHLR. For first year engineering students. 8 slides.
- Choose the number of slides and the language. Click Continue.
- Gamma shows an outline. Read it. Edit it. Delete or add points. Click Continue.
- Choose a theme (colours and fonts). Click Generate.
- Wait a minute. Your presentation is ready.
Editing the slides
- Click any text to edit it.
- Click an image, then Replace to use another image. Gamma can also generate a new AI image from a prompt.
- Click the + between slides to add a slide.
- Use the right side panel for Theme, Layout and Images.
- Ask the AI helper (the sparkle icon) things like "Make this slide shorter" or "Add a slide about costs".
Exporting
Click Share at the top, then Export.
- PowerPoint (PPTX) — to open in MS PowerPoint or Google Slides. Needed for the lab.
- PDF — for printing or emailing.
- You can also Present directly from the browser.
Making it good
Gamma makes a decent first draft. Make it yours:
- Check every fact. Gamma can hallucinate numbers.
- Replace generic images with real ones. A photo of your own campus is better than a stock image.
- Keep one idea per slide. Delete slides that say nothing new.
- The first slide should have a clear title and your name, roll number and branch.
- The last slide should be a summary or "Thank you" with a question for the audience.
Other AI presentation tools
- Canva Presentations — Magic Design for presentations.
- Microsoft Copilot in PowerPoint — needs a paid plan.
- Google Slides with Gemini — covered in the next chapter.
- Beautiful.ai, Tome, Pitch — similar to Gamma.
Try it
- Make an 8-slide presentation on an engineering topic from your branch. Examples: "How a lithium-ion battery works", "Smart traffic lights for Vizag", "3D printing in mechanical engineering", "How the Vizag port handles containers".
- Export it as PPTX. Open it in Google Slides and check that nothing broke.
- Try Paste in text: paste the summary you made in Chapter 9 and let Gamma turn it into slides.
New words
- Presentation — a set of slides shown to an audience; also called a PPT or a deck.
- Slide — one page of a presentation.
- Outline — the list of slide titles and main points, made before the slides.
- Theme — the colours, fonts and style of a presentation.
- Layout — how text and images are arranged on a slide.
- Export — to save in a different file format, like PPTX or PDF.
- PPTX — the file format of Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Credits — points on a free plan; each AI generation uses some.
- Stock image — a general-purpose photo from an image library.
